The Merchants of Mammon: How Greed Became a God:

“Let the peace of Christ dwell in you richly—welcome, dear friend!” God brought you here for a reason—may His love lead you deeper into truth and grace. Here, we walk by faith and love one another as Christ loves us—welcome to this journey.

‘Friends. this is Part 8 of the “Thrones of Darkness” Series. “No man can serve two masters… Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24 (KJV). “For the love of money is the root of all evil…” (1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV).

I. Who Is Mammon?

Mammon is not just a concept—it is a spirit, a principality. Originating from Aramaic, mammon means wealth or riches, but Jesus speaks of it as a rival to God.

  1. Mammon promises security without trust.
  2. Mammon offers status without sanctification.
  3. Mammon demands worship, not just use.

It is not money that’s evil—but when money becomes master, it becomes Mammon.

II. The World Built on His Throne:

Today, Mammon rules:

  1. Corporations that poison for profit.
  2. Governments that sell out citizens for bribes.
  3. Churches that preach success over salvation.
  4. Entertainment that glorifies wealth over wisdom.
  5. People who measure their worth by what they own.

The spirit of Mammon creates:

  1. Oppression.
  2. Slavery.
  3. Anxiety.
  4. Discontentment.
  5. Idolatry.

III. Fictional Interlude: The Ring of Solomon:

“They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare…” (1 Timothy 6:9). A CEO named Calvin inherited a gold ring said to have belonged to Solomon. Soon after putting it on, his company’s stocks soared. His charm became supernatural. Money flowed. But at night, he couldn’t sleep. Shadows danced in the corners.

Whispers asked for more: more layoffs, more lies, more souls. Calvin kept the wealth. But his eyes grew hollow. He never prayed again. And the gold ring burned his finger until his heart grew as black as the vault he built.

IV. The Merchants of Earth and the Spirit of Greed:

“The merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” Revelation 18:3).

In the last days, the Merchants of Earth become tools of Babylon:

  1. They sell death as medicine.
  2. Promote lust as fashion.
  3. Peddle lies as advertising.
  4. Turn nations into commodities.

Under Mammon’s influence, humans become products, souls become transactions, and the world becomes a market of slavery.

V. Greed in the Church:

Mammon has invaded many pulpits:

  1. Prosperity preachers promise wealth, not righteousness.
  2. Seed-sowing becomes manipulative magic.
  3. Church growth is measured by income, not repentance.
  4. Leaders live in luxury while members drown in debt.

“Whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame…” (Philippians 3:19).

This isn’t blessing. It’s blasphemy.

VI. Modern Idols of Mammon:

Mammon now hides behind.

  1. Luxury brands that create insecurity.
  2. Crypto markets that breed obsession.
  3. Pyramid schemes dressed as “freedom.”
  4. TikTok trends that turn envy into entertainment.
  5. Mega-mansions, influencer lifestyles, and celebrity worship.

‘Friends, in most cases people pray for money more than holiness. They hustle more than they hope. They give to get—not to glorify. Mammon’s altars are everywhere!

VII. How Mammon Binds and Controls:

When you listen to “Mammon whispers:”

  1. It tells you-“God won’t provide—you need to provide for yourself.”
  2. “A little compromise is worth it for success.”
  3. “Your identity is in your wealth.”
  4. “Generosity is foolish. Hoard while you can.”

Its weapons:

  1. Debt that steals freedom.
  2. Greed that blinds compassion.
  3. Poverty mindsets that crush hope.
  4. Lust for gaining blinds to eternity.

VIII. How to Break the Grip of Mammon:

  1. Repent of trusting money more than God.
  2. Tithe and give generously—break its hold through surrender.
  3. Live simply—reject excess.
  4. Declare your identity in Christ, not currency.
  5. Fast and pray for discernment in finances.
  6. Expose unjust systems (when led by the Spirit).

“Charge them that are rich… that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches…” (1 Timothy 6:17). ‘Friends, “Mammon cannot rule a heart surrendered to the King.”

🖋 Author’s Note:

‘Friends, my inspiration in writing “The Merchants of Mammon: How Greed Became a God,” is not just a warning against materialism—it is a spiritual indictment of an entire system built upon demonic deception. While the world celebrates success and calls wealth a blessing, Scripture shows us that “Mammon is a rival deity,” one that seeks worship, control, and eternal bondage.

Many have bowed to Mammon without realizing it. They chase careers while abandoning their calling. They stay silent to keep contracts. They measure their spiritual worth by their bank accounts. But Jesus made it plain: “Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.”

This throne of darkness is particularly dangerous because it masquerades as light. Wealth appears harmless—even holy—when it’s actually a chain forged in gold. Behind every unjust economic structure, every billionaire built on oppression, every ministry more concerned with funding than faith, lies Mammon, the spirit of greed.

And yet, God is raising up a remnant who cannot be bought. They give freely. They live simply. They trust God to provide. They expose injustice with boldness. They break the back of Mammon by walking in radical generosity and supernatural contentment. ‘Friends, this message is not a call to poverty—it’s a call to purity. When God blesses, it brings peace. When Mammon blesses, it brings torment, fear, and pride.

The true riches are not found in stocks or vaults. They are found in Christ.
A surrendered heart is richer than a golden empire. Mammon’s days are numbered. And the merchants of Earth will weep when Babylon falls.

“God bless all, and a safe and peaceful day!”
